If you are a Kiwi, you have heard of the Shrek the famous Merino sheep. Shrek avoided muster for 6 years by hiding in a cave and generally getting himself lost when muster time came around. When Shrek was finally found, he had 6 years of Merino wool on him. This is 5 more years then normal for a sheep. He became an instant celebrity in New Zealand. This BBC article says he had enough wool for 20 mens suits when he was found. There have been books written about him and he has been used to raise money for kids charities ever since he was found. Sadly, Shrek's life has come to an end as he was put down on Monday due to old age.
Also, the news everyone wants to know: did we make it back to NZ with all that wine? Yes, we did! We got a case of wine checked as luggage on the plane with no problem. We also somehow managed to get through Customs without paying any duties/GST taxes as well. So, for anyone coming this way, we need more California Zinfandel! For some reason (which I am sure has to do with cost), NZ doesn't import wine from the US.
We also greatly enjoyed our trip back to the US though our time went by much to fast. We struggled to get around to see everyone. But thanks to those who came out and meet us at Wellman's. We had a great evening out.
We are back into the hum drum winter in NZ-- though it hasn't been much of a winter yet. The temperatures are still pretty warm for this time of year. The ski fields have had to delay their opening as it hasn't been cold enough to snow.
